Lehigh Valley Arts Council Workshop: Pricing your Artwork, June 9th

Presents:
Pricing your Artwork

Pricing your artwork can be one of the most difficult aspects of being an artist. In this professional development workshop, a panel of arts professionals representing differing points of view will address their experiences with the buying and selling of fine arts and crafts. Topics to be addressed include: determining value, working on commission, online sales, etc.

Panelists:

Jon Clark
Owner, Home & Planet

After working on environmental and energy policy in Washington DC for a number of years, Jon moved to the Lehigh Valley where he was advertising director for two environmentally related magazines. Jon left that company in 1996 and opened Home & Planet in its first location in Macungie, PA. The store moved to the SouthSide of Bethlehem in 1998 and now occupies a 5,000 square foot retail space that was once home to a Woolworth's Department store. Home & Planet represents about 300 artists and small companies whose products are made from recycled, found, organic and other environmentally and socially responsible materials. Home & Planet also has a dedicated gallery space that each month features the work of a different artist.

Ann A. Lalik
Metalsmith and jeweler; Executive Director, The Baum School of Art

Ann is an art administrator, art educator and artist (as well as a wife and mother). Prior to becoming Executive Director in 2006, she held the position of Director of Educational Programs & Gallery Exhibitions for 18 years. In 1984 she began developing the metalsmithing and jewelry program at The Baum School of Art that now serves hundreds of jewelry and metalsmithing students each year and offers specialized metalsmithing workshops. In the 1980's and 1990's Ann created and sold her jewelry through retail, wholesale and fine craft venues. Although her production has slowed down she continues to exhibit nationally and regionally in museums and galleries. As an artist, Lalik is passionate about her art and the need for all people to have a creative outlet. Her work focuses on designing and creating wearable art objects with precious and non-precious metals, plastics and found objects that often reflect the roll of women in our society and recognize their instinctive strength, power and wisdom.

Christine I. Oaklander, Ph.D
Curator and consultant; Arts Coordinator, Lehigh Valley Health Network

Born and raised in NYC, Christine worked at the New York Historical Society and most recently, served as chief curator at the Allentown Art Museum for five years specializing in Historical American Art. Her position at the AAM also required that she network with local artists and introduced her to contemporary artists and their work. As Arts Coordinator at the Lehigh Valley Health Network, her responsibilities now include building a permanent collection of art by regional artists.
